The whole Madison Square Garden was jam packed with basketball junkies from multiple countries around the world. Predictions and prospect profiles were all showcased in the NBA Rookie Draft 2009 last June 26, 2009.

The night was filled with twists and turns from father-son combos to draft rights. “We have a rowdy crowd tonight”, quoted by NBA Commissioner David Stern with his welcome remarks. Projected number one overall pick Blake Griffin for Oklahoma State University started the salvo for the Los Angeles Clippers. The versatile forward surfaced the rumors since the Draft Lottery. Hasheem Thabeet made history by becoming the first Tanzanian to enter the NBA Draft from University of Connecticut imposing his defensive skills.

Guards ruled the Top 10 with seven guards from James Harden to Brandon Jennings. The Spanish version of Steve Nash, Ricky Rubio picked as number 5 by Minnesota Timberwolves. The team had consecutive picks Ricky Rubio and Jonny Flynn getting two skilled guards. Brandon Jennings showed up late from Rome picked by Milwaukee Bucks.

First round made up of foreign players around the world like countries from Spain to Israel. Minnesota’s weird three guard pick in the first round stirred trade rumors. Minnesota settled the scores and traded Ty Lawson to Denver for a future first-round pick.

NBA is mixed with trades from Shaquille O’neal coming to the City of Rock n’ Roll Cleveland. Vince Carter lands in his hometown Orlando Magic and Richard Jefferson sent to San Antonio Spurs from Milwaukee Bucks.
